Long Island
Long Island is the largest island in New York adjoining United States, extending approximately 118 miles east-northeast from the mouth of the Hudson River, adjacent to Manhattan Island. This 1,377-square-mile island is separated from the mainland on the north by the Long Island Sound and bounded on the south and east by the Atlantic Ocean. Long Island has two prominent counties Nassau and Suffolk. There are five distinct regions in Long Island: North Shore, with remnants of its glorious past; South Shore, the sports and entertainment hub, with world-famous Jones and Fire Island Beaches; Central Suffolk, with beautiful forests and natural inlets, the world's largest factory outlet center and a huge water park; North Fork, with an expansive array of vineyards, farms and farm stands; and South Fork, widely known as "The Hamptons,"with pristine beaches and quaint villages.
